Now,whatdoesallthismeanformeandforus?First,Iwillinstructmylawyerstomountavigorousdefense,usingallavailableappropriatearguments.ButlegallanguagemustnotobscurethefactthatIhavedonewrong.Second,Iwillcontinueonthepathofrepentance,seekingpastoralsupportandthatofothercaringpeoplesothattheycanholdmeaccountableformyowncommitment.

Inthis,Iaskforyourprayersandforyourhelpinhealingournation.AndthoughIcannotmovebeyondorforgetthis-indeed,Imustalwayskeepitasacautionlightinmylife-itisveryimportantthatournationmoveforward.

Iamverygratefulforthemany,manypeople-clergyandordinarycitizensalike-whohavewrittenmewithwisecounsel.IamprofoundlygratefulforthesupportofsomanyAmericanswhosomehowthroughitallseemtostillknowthatIcareaboutthemagreatdeal,thatIcareabouttheirproblemsandtheirdreams.Iamgratefulforthosewhohavestoodbymeandwhosaythatinthiscaseandmanyothers,theboundsofprivacyhavebeenexcessivelyandunwiselyinvaded.Thatmaybe.Nevertheless,inthiscase,itmaybeablessing,becauseIstillsinned.Andifmyrepentanceisgenuineandsustained,andifIcanmaintainbothabrokenspiritandastrongheart,thengoodcancomeofthisforourcountryaswellasformeandmyfamily.(Applause)
